Why Insurance Limits Matter for Drivers in Smyrna, TNInjury Crash at Nashville Hwy and S Lowry St

Medical bills, lost wages, and vehicle repairs can climb past an at-fault driver’s policy limits faster than many people expect. Tennessee’s financial responsibility law sets minimum liability coverage at $25,000 for one person’s bodily injuries, $50,000 for all bodily injuries combined, and $25,000 for property damage. Those minimums may fall well short of a serious injury claim.

Tennessee law requires auto policies to include uninsured and underinsured motorist coverage unless the policyholder rejects it in writing. When that coverage is in place, it can help pay for losses if the at-fault driver has no insurance or too little.

When several policies are involved, it can become hard to sort out which coverage applies. It can involve the other driver’s liability policy, a driver’s own uninsured motorist coverage or even health insurance.

Policy language, notice requirements, and claim deadlines vary, and insurers may ask for recorded statements or documents early in the process. Many people turn to a car accident lawyer to help them review the declaration pages, identify every policy that may apply, and explain how each one fits into a claim.
