What Compensation Is Available After a Car Accident in Tennessee? One Injured After Three-Vehicle Crash at Marshall Rd and Stones River Rd

Following a car accident, injured victims may face physical discomfort, emotional strain, and unexpected financial burdens. Tennessee law allows accident victims to pursue compensation for their losses, and understanding the types of damages available can help ensure a fair recovery. Compensation is generally divided into three main categories:

  • Economic damages cover measurable financial losses. These may include emergency medical care, hospital bills, rehabilitation costs, prescription medications, and other treatment-related expenses. Victims may also recover compensation for lost wages if they are unable to work, as well as vehicle repair or replacement costs. In serious cases, compensation may extend to diminished earning capacity if injuries impact future employment.
  • Non-economic damages address the personal and emotional effects of an accident. These damages may include compensation for pain and suffering, emotional distress, mental anguish, and reduced quality of life. Although these losses are not tied to specific bills, they are recognized as meaningful consequences of a serious crash.
  • Punitive damages may be available in situations involving particularly reckless behavior, such as extreme speeding or driving under the influence. These damages are intended to punish wrongful conduct and discourage similar actions in the future. However, they are not awarded in every case.
