Compensation That Victims Can Recover After a Car Accident in La Vergne, TN

People hurt in a car accident in Tennessee may be eligible to seek several types of compensation depending on the circumstances of the crash and the extent of their injuries. These generally fall into two categories: economic damages, which cover measurable financial losses, and non-economic damages, which address more personal impacts such as pain and suffering.

Economic damages can include current and future medical expenses, rehabilitation costs, lost wages during recovery, and any long-term loss of earning capacity if injuries prevent a return to work.

Non-economic damages may cover physical pain, emotional distress, and the loss of enjoyment of daily activities that injuries can cause. In cases that involve particularly reckless behavior, Tennessee law also allows for punitive damages, though these are reserved for situations where a defendant’s conduct was especially egregious.

A car accident attorney can help identify which types of compensation may apply to a specific situation and what evidence may be needed to support each element of a claim. Tennessee’s modified comparative fault rule means that any compensation a person recovers can be reduced in proportion to their share of fault, which is also why legal guidance early in the process can matter.
