Who Pays for Medical Bills After a Car Accident in Lebanon, TN?
After a car crash in Tennessee, medical bills can become one of the most pressing concerns for those hurt. Tennessee follows a fault-based system, which means the driver who caused the wreck is generally responsible for damages, including medical costs, through their liability insurance. However, getting that money is rarely immediate. Bills often arrive before any insurance claim is resolved, leaving people to manage costs on their own in the short term.
In the meantime, your own health insurance, MedPay coverage, or personal injury protection may help cover initial treatment costs. MedPay, which is available as an add-on to Tennessee auto policies, pays regardless of fault and can be used to cover emergency room visits, follow-up care, and rehabilitation.
People hurt in crashes on heavily traveled corridors like Interstate 24 near Wilson County often face injuries ranging from whiplash and soft tissue damage to broken bones and head trauma. The expenses of these injuries can add up quickly even after a seemingly moderate collision.
A car accident attorney may be able to help you understand which insurance sources apply to your situation and in what order. They can also help document your medical expenses and negotiate with insurers on your behalf. Tennessee has a one-year statute of limitations for personal injury claims, so the timeline for taking action matters.
