The crash happened shortly after 9:30 p.m. near mile marker 59, between the exits for Sulphur Springs Road and Jefferson Pike, near the State Route 266 interchange.

Motorists traveling through Rutherford County faced significant delays as traffic was redirected away from the area during the overnight closure. Drivers were urged to use alternate routes while the scene remained active.
Authorities have not released the identity of the pedestrian. Officials have also not shared details about the circumstances that led to the fatal accident. The Tennessee Highway Patrol is leading the investigation into the crash.
We extend our sincere condolences to the family and loved ones of the pedestrian who lost their life in this tragedy.
What Should Families Do After a Fatal Pedestrian Accident in Tennessee?
When a family loses someone in a fatal pedestrian accident, one of the most important early steps is to seek legal guidance as soon as possible. Tennessee law gives surviving family members the right to pursue a wrongful death claim, and acting early helps preserve key evidence and protect the family’s legal options.
Under Tennessee law, a wrongful death claim allows surviving family members, including spouses, children, and parents, to seek compensation for losses such as funeral and burial expenses, lost future income, and the loss of companionship. Tennessee follows a modified comparative fault rule, meaning that if the deceased was found partially at fault, compensation may be reduced based on that percentage.
A wrongful death attorney can review the details of the accident and help families understand how fault and liability may apply in their specific situation. Gathering evidence early can make a meaningful difference in how a case develops.
Families may also face immediate financial pressure after a fatal crash. Medical bills incurred before death, funeral costs, and the sudden loss of a household income can create serious hardship.
Losing a family member in a sudden accident leaves many unanswered questions. At Gritton & Gritton, we have years of experience reviewing wrongful death and pedestrian accident cases throughout Tennessee, and we can help explain how the process works and what may be available in your situation.
