Elderly Man Hurt in Residential Fire on Leaf Ave in Murfreesboro, TN

Murfreesboro, TN (July 14, 2026) – An elderly man was hurt on Monday morning, July 13, after a fire broke out at a home on Leaf Avenue.

The Murfreesboro Fire Rescue Department crews removed the man from the residence and treated him before he was taken to a local hospital. A search of the home confirmed no one else was inside at the time.

Emergency units worked to put out the fire and ventilate the structure shortly after arriving. The man’s condition was not immediately available.

The cause of the fire has not yet been determined. Investigators are continuing to look into what started it.

We hope the man recovers quickly from his injuries.

Who Can Be Held Liable for a Residential Fire in Murfreesboro, TN?

Elderly Man Hurt in Residential Fire on Leaf Ave

Liability after a home fire in Tennessee depends on what caused it. If faulty wiring, a defective appliance, or a landlord’s failure to maintain smoke detectors contributed, the property owner or a manufacturer could bear responsibility rather than the resident who was hurt.

Tennessee law requires landlords to maintain rental properties in a reasonably safe condition, including working smoke detectors and sound wiring, and a failure to do so can support a premises liability claim.

Once the investigation of the fire concludes, a Murfreesboro personal injury lawyer can help determine whether the cause points to a property owner’s negligence, a defective product, or another responsible party and can assist in preserving evidence, like the damaged wiring or appliance, before repairs begin.

Victims and their families should try to preserve photos of the damage, medical records documenting treatment, and any receipts for replaced belongings or temporary housing. The damaged appliance or wiring, if accessible, should be left undisturbed rather than repaired or discarded. Copies of the fire marshal’s report are also worth keeping on file.

Fire investigations can take time, but understanding potential responsibility doesn’t have to wait until they’re finished. At Gritton & Gritton, we can review the fire investigation and explain to you what options may be available under Tennessee law.
