Murfreesboro, TN – Head-On Crash on I-840 Leaves One Dead, Another Injured

Murfreesboro, TN (March 25, 2026) – Emergency responders were dispatched Sunday evening, March 23, at approximately 6:13 p.m., to a reported head-on collision on Interstate 840 near the Interstate 24 interchange around the 53-mile marker.

According to the Tennessee Highway Patrol, a 19-year-old driver, Brookelyn Whitaker, was traveling eastbound on I-840 in a 2015 Nissan Altima when her vehicle left the roadway and entered the center median. The Altima then crossed into the westbound lanes, colliding head-on with a 2008 Saturn Outlook driven by 62-year-old Glenda Herron. Emergency responders confirmed that Whitaker died as a result of the crash. Herron, who was wearing a seatbelt, sustained serious injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital.

Emergency crews remained on the scene for several hours, clearing debris and securing the roadway while the Tennessee Highway Patrol investigated the circumstances surrounding the collision. Authorities have not released additional details regarding the full extent of injuries or the sequence of events leading to the crash.

Our thoughts are with the family of the deceased and the injured individual, and we hope for a full recovery.

How To Document Injuries After a Car Accident in TennesseeHead-On Crash on I-840 Leaves One Dead, Another Injured

Proper documentation of injuries following a car accident in Tennessee is essential for medical care, insurance claims, and any potential legal action. After a serious crash, it is important to seek immediate medical attention, even if injuries appear minor, since conditions like internal bleeding, concussions, whiplash, or soft tissue damage may not be immediately noticeable.

Keep thorough records of all medical evaluations, treatments, prescriptions, and follow-up appointments. Taking photographs of visible injuries, vehicle damage, and the accident scene, including skid marks, road conditions, and traffic signs, can provide critical evidence. Collecting witness contact information and statements helps verify the sequence of events and may be important in establishing fault.

Maintaining a personal injury journal detailing daily symptoms, pain levels, mobility challenges, and recovery progress can further support medical and insurance documentation. Obtaining the official police report is also essential, as it provides a formal account of the accident and the responding officers’ observations. This record can be invaluable in supporting insurance claims or potential legal proceedings.

Prompt and thorough documentation not only ensures accurate treatment and monitoring of injuries but also protects your rights when seeking compensation for medical bills, lost wages, pain and suffering, and other damages. Consulting with a skilful Murfreesboro auto accident attorney in Murfreesboro or Rutherford County can help guide the process, ensure deadlines under Tennessee law are met, and maximize the potential for fair compensation.
